Salman Rushdie
Born: June 19, 1947
Indian-born, ethnically Kashmiri, British essayist and author of fiction, most of which is set on the Indian subcontinent. He first achieved fame with his second novel, "Midnight's Children" (1981), which won the Booker Prize.
